As a continuation to our previous Canadian Outbound International Taxation session, this Introduction to Canadian Inbound International Taxation will be discussing some of the fundamental international tax topics and concepts for a foreign company to invest in Canada. This session aims to cover topics such as carrying on business in Canada with a corporation versus a branch, repatriation from Canadian subsidiary to a foreign parent and considerations on exit of a Canadian subsidiary.

Michelle Zhang is a Partner with the International Tax Services practice of Deloitte in Toronto. She assists clients across sectors and industries in developing tax-efficient structures for cross-border acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate reorganizations, cash management and repatriations, and financing transactions. With 15 years in practicing Canadian international tax, Michelle has deep knowledge and extensive experience about both the Canadian inbound and outbound/through-bound investments.
Prior to moving to Canada as an immigrant in late 2010, Michelle spent almost 9 years in China practicing China tax. As a result, Michelle has decent tax and business knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region as well.
Angel Tong, CPA, MTax
Senior Manager, International Tax, Deloitte
Angel is a Senior Manager in the International Tax group of Deloitte Canada. She has advised multinational companies, both Canadian-based and foreign-based, on a broad range of international and domestic tax issues focusing in the areas of restructuring transactions, cross-border financing, repatriation and other domestic planning. Angel has served a variety of clients in the financial services, technology and resource sectors.
